I flew to Chase, B.C. and arrived at Pineridge Farm on April 13, 2006.  I had the pleasure of meeting Jill (below, on right, holding Kol) and Norm Fike, their friends, (Judi and Bruce, holding Thor and Frekja), many Icelandic Sheepdogs, including Kolperla's sire and dam. Both beautiful examples of the Icelandic Sheepdog. Jill also has many Icelandic Horses and Icelandic Sheep.

Finally home. After our long journey from Canada, Kol found this spot and slept for hours without stirring.

This is NCH. Djarfur fra Thytur Stadir, Kol's maternal grandfather, at 15 weeks.

Fun at the beach. 5.1.06

During this period in our lives, I worked an evening shift, so Hana, Zoey and I went to the beach almost every morning. The girls had a great time. Kol was already working with the girls at juvenile hall by this age. She and I spent all day, every day together. Naturally, she is very bonded to me, and I to her.

stackpup.jpg

A natural show dog, Kol loved to show off her "stack".

After the beach. Kol's sisters Zoey and Hana are in the background. Kol is 15 weeks in this picture.

Kol tries to teach the other girls how to howl. Notice Hana the beagle's face...now, she really knows how to howl.

Flying Kol (11.07) People often ask me how much white Kol has.  She posed in this position so you could see for yourself.

Kayak Dog (7.06) Kol is a very athletic dog and loves the outdoors.

The Icelandic Sheepdog is very expressive and uses the ears to express sweetness.  This isn't the sharpest picture, but it captures Kol's "loveface" which is typically impossible to get on film.  The ears of the ISD should be able to close back completely as you can see in this picture.  This serves to protect the ears from wind and cold.  The tail should be bushy so that the nose can be covered when sleeping.  This warms the air so that the lungs will not freeze in harsh temperatures.

Below are pics of Kol at her first show, The American Rare Breed Association (ARBA), Clairmont, CA. 5.19.06.  She brought home 13 ribbons including BOB, Best Puppy and Best in Show Reserved.  The judge pictured on the left is an AKC judge and had never seen an ISD.  I showed her pictures of many ISDs owned by ISAA membership.  She was facinated by the color variation and the double dewclaws. Kol was a good little ambassador for ISDs.  The pic on the right is of ARBA CH Kingleo's Giancarlo Filipazzo ("Phil"), a Leonberger.  The minute Kol saw Phil, she was in love.  It was clearly mutual because Phil guarded her crate as you can see in the picture below.  She pulled him around by his leash, a sight that made the crowd roar with laughter. Phil is a beautiful boy, gentle and loving at 130 lbs.  True to his breed standard, he is good at doing two things, guarding those he loves and, as his owner notes, "absolutely nothing".

In July of 2006, our family moved to an island in the Pacific Northwest.  The trip was an adventure for all of us and we are happy to be in our new home.  On our long drive, we stopped for a visit with my brother and his family.  It was very hot, so Kol took herself outside to play in the sprinkler.  As you can see, Kol's left ear popped up in July and she has grown quite a bit.  She was 23 lbs. in early July, one pound heavier than her mother, Raf.

Kol and I camped out in the Airstream on the trip.  You can see who the bed-hog is in this picture!

When we arrived at our new home, Kol had a package from Hippi, Lilja, and Elska Secondino.  These ISDs belong to Jo-Ann Secondino.  They sent a wonderful card that read, "We all wanted to be sure you had a set of keys for your new house.  Best wishes to you and your family in your new home...".  Here is a pic of Kol with her new keys.

This is Kol's first Hollywood picture.  She was featured as Miss March in the ISAA 2007 calender.  She is 6 months old in this picture and all ears!

And here is our girl at 11 months.  We had a rare snowfall in November, 2006.  Kol loved the snow and kept begging to go outside.

Kol's "all business" face (6.07) She is filling out more and more.  Her coat has a beautiful sheen and is very full at present.

Kol's favorite place to sit in the backyard and survey. (9.07)
